Ms. Kensington's Musings

A huge thank you to everyone who came to the private viewing of the London Collection. It was a lovely evening and so nice to be able to present the debut collection in such a gorgeous setting. The London Collection is designed to capture the city’s beauty whilst highlighting its darker, edgier side.

We have officially joined Our STORE - a designer collective sharing a permanent space in the leafy enclaves of Sydney's Paddington. Home to eight Australian designers, who have come together to create a unique retail space, sharing everything from the cost of the lease to taking turns to staff the store. 

 

A chance encounter at a trade fair in Feb last year has led to a really lovely brand collaboration between Ms. Kensington Silk Lingerie and the gorgeous Sarah Cotterall of Silk & Steel Jewellery. I wanted to write this post as it's so important in business to support each other and realise that "Incredible things happen when women support other women".  

It can be really stressful when you're split between being a mum, running a business and trying to be a good friend, partner and person to then try and cram in more things into your day for 'balance'. This week I've tried yoga, not drinking and going to bed earlier without looking at my phone actually rather stressful. 

For me, becoming a Mum has definitely shaped the way I have designed my lingerie and also my business. Talking to my own mother, my mother in law, their friends and both younger and older colleagues, it became clear that none of us wanted to open our underwear drawer and be confronted by the restrictive and cheap bedroom ideals of our younger selves or aspire to be what the media deemed ‘sexy’.

I feel very strongly that as a brand you are what you create and I have done my best to create a product and operate a business that is transparent, ethical and sustainable. Fashion Revolution is an important week in reminding us of how we can be responsible as brands, manufacturers and consumers in what we buy, wear and consume on a day to day level. 

Although pouring out our most heartfelt emotions onto a blank piece of paper isn’t something most have us have done since we were teenagers. Handwritten letters are today such a rarity that they are sure to evoke some powerful emotions in the recipient. Not convinced? Read our guide on how to write a love letter.

We were told to “forget everything you learnt at school”, not just to torch the rule book but rewrite it completely and that your dark side was something to be celebrated and explored - your demons could be on full display.
